LITTLE KULALA
Situated south of the Sesriem gate to Sossusvlei lies the private 21 000 hectare Kulala location on the western side of the reserve. It offers magnificent dune scenery to the west Wilderness Reserve , the closest reserve to Sossusvlei itself. Little Kulala is in a prime rugged Namib mountainous escarpment to the north and east with grassy plains and "fairy circles" filling the space in between.
Little Kulala has some of the design features of the established Kulala Desert Lodge, but is smaller and located on the dry Auab River bed with dead acacia trees standing as relics to their kind as the backdrop. The camp comprises eight thatched and canvas chalets or 'kulalas' (local Oshiwambo meaning 'to sleep') on elevated decks. Each unit has its own private bathroom and wrap-around verandah with a small plunge pool. An internal staircase leading to the flat rooftop about the bathroom provides the ideal setting to spend the evening stargazing in your own private confines. The main area has a relaxed lounge, dining room, bar, curio shop and swimming pool all under thatch. Activities are varied and numerous and include early morning guided game d rives to the dunes, nature drives and walks on our private reserve, day trips into the Namib-Naukluft mountains and early morning ballooning. (ballooning at additional cost)
